Norway Tamil Film Festival – 2010

The Norway Tamil Film Festival 2010 presented the following the film awards:

The people choice Award to Myshkin's " Nandhalala "

The Midnight Sun Award to S.Lenin's   "1999" (From Canada)

The Most Popular Film Award to Sasikumar's " Subramaniyapuram"

The Most Appreciated Film Award to SP.Jhananathan's  "Peranmai"

The Film that touched the Hearts of everyone to Samuthirakani's " Nadodigal"

This is the first ever festival of its kind to be held for the Tamil film industry, and we are proud to be pioneering and holding it in Norway.  Tamil cinema today is a benchmark for several other film industries in India and this initiative we are sure will ensure the reach of Tamil films across the globe even among non-Tamil speaking people. This festival is an attempt to bring Tamil films in to the limelight.  There are already festivals held across the world, such as Cannes, the Dubai Film festival and the South Asian Film festival.  But this is the first one dedicated to tamil films.

We are very fortunate to have a number of special guests attend this event.  We had four famous directors who have graced us with their presence all the way from Chennai, South India.  We are blessed to have Director SP Jananathan, Director Sasikumar, Director Samuthrakanni and Director Mishkin, apart from Director S Linin, who has come all the way from Canada, along with some of his actors and team.

Tamil films are no longer hidden in the background, and even Hollywood is having to take notice and join in.  We have Jack A.R, owner of fusion edge media, coming all the way from Hollywood.  He has helped with casting and effects in the Tamil film 'Peranmai' recently.

Ayngaran International, who is playing a key role in distributing Tamil films across the world have given their support to this event and we are grateful that Mr. Haran from Ayngaran was also able to join us here for the last day event.

The idea of this festival was to bring films that are based more on story than commercialism, from Directors who are not afraid to be different.  We have screened 13 films, all of this nature. All of these films dared to stand out.  They are carefully chosen films, with a variety of themes, such as culture, patriotism, friendship, romance and family values.  They have shown all aspects of our lives, from adult to children, from the rich palaces to the slums.

On the last day i.e. 9th Feb, there was an awards ceremony and the Film Makers who made a difference were recognized.  The first award was the People's Choice Award, which was selected based on the voting by the people who attended. The second award was the Midnight Sun Award, which was awarded to the film produced based on real story. The third one was the  most popular film, which attracted the largest audience for the film screening.

There was allso the Most Appreciated Film by Journalists and An award for the Heart touching film Award.

We wish to thank Moser Baer Entertainment for the coordination in India and Mr. Udhaya, budding Music Director for carrying out several support activities at India.

We wish to thank you all for giving us the good coverage in the media for the festival and we hope you will report the Awards event also.

We seek your encouragement to this new initiative to make it bigger and better in 2011. We will be happy to see you all in this festival one day!!

Best Regards,

Vaseeharan Sivalingam
